Students Speak Up! Session 4: "Identity, Freedom and the Body"

Wed Oct 02 2024 4:00PM – 5:00PM
Event Description:
A house meeting is a small, informal gathering (about 15 people) in a shared space, as an opportunity for discussing issues of shared concern and finding ways to work together. It's a way to get to share, listen, be heard, and get involved. On 2 October, Dr Sohinee Roy, professor in both Gender and Sexuality studies and Race and Ethnic Studies joins the conversation! There will be light refreshments provided. Our topic will be "Identity, Freedom and the Body," focusing on intersectional issues of identity, such as gender, race, sexuality and bodily autonomy. This is a chance both to listen and be heard. Voter information and an opportunity to register to vote will be provided by the League of Women Voters-Naperville. After the discussion, we'll provide (and post up on the HUB) a list of further readings and other media to empower you to explore the topic in more depth. This fall between August and late October, the Center for Social Impact will be hosting a series of these meetings, in cooperation with the League of Women Voters-Naperville and our partners across campus, dedicated to domestic issues of the highest importance.
